I don't gamble online. I rarely gamble at all. We used to occassionally play poker with some people we knew, since having kids this has all but stopped, but I think this is an overstep by the legislature. It is not illegal to gamble in the state of Washington - There are numerous poker rooms on the I-5 corridor and also on the reservations to the north and south here. Why make it a class C felony to gamble online? Is there a lobby that has courted this legislation? I am just awe struck by this.

From what I understand (and please note that I don't purport to know), online casinos have reputations for taking money and not ever really giving it back. The idea that the legislature is trying out might be a measure designed to protect people from themselves; or to keep American money from going overseas.
I don't say that it's right, I just wonder if that might be the rationale?
I understand that there are both legitimate and nonlegitamate casinos, but this strikes me as overly paternalistic. Especially, in a state where gambling is allowed in large part. I personally think it is probably pandering to special interests. Maybe I am jaded though.
I don't see anything wrong with online gambling as long as their are safeguards in place to protect problem gamblers. When you play online, you can play at your own pace, with no noise, no smoking, and lower stakes.
